Did I tell you that Julie gets very competative..? She's already talking about "next year" so I can see her looking to improve.

Can someone please explain what/how scatter/orienteering/navigation are actually scored and how we're supposed to play? Are your marked up maps scored? Do you get more points for quick completion?

There will be points for each clue you answered and each letter board you collected enroute. If theres a time limit on the section and you go over then you are penalised but no bonus for fast completion as a rule. The John Wayne quotes were supposed to be worth a fortune but dont know how many points.

As to the actual scoring methods, its shrouded in mystery

I was getting that impression looking back at the forum trying to work out what the categories mean.

How many John Wayne quotes did everyone see? We saw three definates (by camp site, digger bucket at Bala and telegraph pole on Westward route beyond the inflatable cowboy), plus a fourth guess (blur seen in corner of eye) on Eastwards route. We didn't put coordinates for the Bala one because we didn't have a map - or so we thought (should have used Navigator grids). We were beginning to think they were a myth...

Cheers  - I think Team Scrapheap have set the benchmark for 2012 though

I can't help feeling there's a high degree of alchemy in the scoring (and don't some people take it so seriously?? 8) )

I think we got 5 or 6 of em but Ben will confirm that. Dunno how many there should have been but there was the one at the camp site as you say, there was one on a marshals car and the rest we picked up on the west run Saturday afternoon tue other ide of Finny on the side roads. There was one I think Barb got on the Thursday but we missed it  Gave up looking on Saturday
